Detoxing….Day 2 & 3

18 Nov 2013

DAY 2

Having eaten way too many almonds on Day 1, I was ready to stick the plan in full. I woke up feeling much more rested which was exactly what I needed.

Breakfast I decided to do the smoothie to really cleanse my system and it was SO yummy! Although, I’m in Colorado and it’s very cold so it was not as nice to be drinking something cold when I was already freezing. This kept me full and satisfied for such a long time and it really is one of my favorite breakfast options.

I then made the hummus and boy oh boy… it was SOOO hard not to eat the full thing. Totally delish. Was feeling good and continued with lunch, albeit a late one. So far, so good. Still eating a bit too many nuts, but not aaaas many as yesterday. haha.

It was then dinner that I had to stop the detox for the night. Because I haven’t been home in 1.5 years, my parents are very happy to have me back and had a small dinner party. Originally I was going to make my own food but it was a bit rude to not participate with everyone else in what they were eating. I know that many people go through this, as I get tons of emails from people saying ” what do I eat if I have to go out to lunch?” etc…. So I ended up having 2 glasses of wine (LOADS of peppermint tea after though to cleanse my body), and my mom made pulled pork which I had with some coleslaw that she made with a lovely vinegarette.

So what SHOULD you eat if you go off it for a meal? Ideally you wouldn’t, but the best is to stick to anything as long as it DOES NOT contain salt or sugar. The key is skipping any condiments… so whether you eat some chicken or lean meats, quinoa or preferably a salad from a restaurant, ask for it to be steamed and dressing on the side. Have balsamic vinegar and oil. Then get back on the detox the following day.

DAY 3

I woke up and did the lemon water, had the morning oats, my hummus snack, then the salad. Just divine. Again, snacked on too many nuts (do you see a problem with me?! haha). But never enough that I felt too full. I managed to hit the gym today, felt good with loads of energy.

I was also sipping on my pimped out water. I add cucumber, mint and raspberries and let it sit for a while. This is extremely hydrating, adds loads of antioxidants and vitamins and helps cleanse your body more than just normal water.

Skipped having my afternoon snack because I was out quite late running errands (errrrr, shopping at Nike!) and then made dinner which was lush. Post dinner I found myself really hungry so I had a small bowl of frozen berries and nuts. Haha. I think I need to get these damn nuts OUT. OF. MY. HOUSE!  photo 2

It’s now 8pm as I write this and I’m sipping on a mint tea watching the Broncos play. Everyone else is having beer and wine but I’m feeling good that I’m skipping the alcohol and stuck to the plan today. I have 2 days left but I’ll probably go one extra day because of so many almonds/brazil nuts/sunflower seeds I have been having plus the small cheat on day 2. Not that I need to continue, but I am feeling good and I’m loving the meals. My bloating is going away, my skin is clearing up, I have loads of energy (minus the fact that I’m still a bit jetlagged) and I’m just feeling so good having so much yummy vegan food!

Day 4 tomorrow! Can’t wait.

Nikki
