Anti-Aging Superfood Smoothie

Have any of you ever wondered if there are foods that can help fight aging and prevent heart disease while still being delicious? Me too! Which is why I created this incredible anti-aging superfood smoothie, which will do both of those things while also giving you a ton of energy. It’s literally the perfect smoothie to incorporate into your morning routine to jump-start your day and help you fight aging…the graceful way 🙂
Now you may be wondering, how is it possible that this simple smoothie is anti-aging? Well it’s because of the fruit of course! If I’ve learned anything from nutrition courses, doing research and blogging for the past few years, it’s that fruits and vegetables are the solution to almost anything. Plus the acai powder and maca powder add a superfood aspect, providing many health benefits from this simple drink.
The first layer is the blueberry layer, which is both beautiful and nutritious. Blueberries are anti-aging, have tons of anti-oxidants, and they help to prevent cancer and heart disease. The blueberry layer also creates a nice contrast with the banana layer, so get creative with multiple layers for a fun striped effect! Perfect for instagram 🙂
Bananas are often less talked about because they aren’t nearly as exciting as beautiful blueberries, but they (like all fruits) provide significant health benefits and should be eaten regularly . Bananas will give you a ton of energy from the fiber, they are loaded with tryptophan to help fight depression, they are high in calcium for strong bones and they will prevent muscle cramping. Not only that, but bananas are extremely high in Vitamin B6, which helps fight inflammation and prevent heart disease. Talk about a superfood!
If you don’t already have Acai and Maca powders, I highly recommend purchasing a small bag of each from your local health food store or Whole Foods. If you still can’t find them, you can also get them on Amazon for relatively cheap! Maca powder is high in many vitamins and minerals, helping to boost energy, alleviate menstrual issues (like cramping, bloating, mood swings and anxiety), and restore your red blood cells. Acai powder is made from acai berries, which have more antioxidants than almost every fruit. They aid in weight loss, prevent cancer, improve heart health and help slow or reverse aging damage caused by oxidation. I always recommend getting one or two of these superfoods to put in your smoothies on a regular basis for all the added health benefits.
- 1 cup blueberries
- 2 tablespoons of water
- ½ teaspoon acai powder
- small palmful of mint
- 2 bananas
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tsp maca powder
- 2 Tablespoons coconut flakes
- Blend the blueberry layer ingredients and pour half of the mixture into a jar or glass. Set the other half aside
- Blend the banana layer ingredients and pour on top of the blueberry layer
- Pour the remaining blueberry layer on top of the banana layer
- Top with coconut flakes! Optional to add nuts, berries, mint or cacao nibs to the top as well
